Last Minute Christmas Purchase?

As Click and Clack [Tom and Ray Magliozzi], the Tappet brothers from CarTalk are fond to say: "Here's another installment from our 'Shameless Commerce Department.'"

I have several copies of two great stories I have written and they would make great stocking stuffers (if you have relatives or friends with larger-than-life feet). I will sign them both at the Walgreens store at the corner of State Street and McKenzie roads in Greenfield, IN this Saturday (12/18) from 11:00a-1:00p. Each are $15.00 or you can buy both for $29.99. You can check them out before buying at www.Lulu.com. Search my name and both novels will come up.

Someone at work saw an ad for my signing. I heard them say to another staffer,"I guess he can mark that one off his bucket list." I wrote my books before the Jack Nicholson/Morgan Freeman film came out. I didn't think of it as something I wanted to do before I die. (Get picked up by a major publisher -- that's definately on my list!)

Maybe writing a book was on that staffer's list. Something always is. The question is to ask is "why?" Being a Christian, I find that a two-fold rationale comes into play when deciding how I should spend the limited ink supply that is my life.

First there is God's revealed will. How can I mess up if I determine to give myself to that which God says he values? It's about living in line with the universe. It's like the old saying of climbing the ladder and finding out that it was leaning against the right wall all along.

Secondly, there is my revealed joy. Like a great father, God get's excited over his children's fulfillment. Maybe collecting old reruns on DVD or going to the Masters' tournament or taking a cruise to Bermuda won't change the world. Maybe I am the one that will change -- as long as I remember to say along with my Savior, "Not my will but thine be done."

"God bless us, everyone."
